WORDS are inadequate to express the depth of gratitude that I feel in my heart for Christian Science, for the freedom from limitations, for the continuous good health, and for the harmony it has brought into my life.

When I was a child my front teeth protruded badly. On a visit to the dentist, my mother and I were told that I must have a brace put across my teeth immediately in order to guide them back into place, or they would never grow normally. After leaving the dentist, we declared that there is only perfect God and perfect man and that in God’s perfect creation there is nothing unlovely or out of place. In Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 273), “Divine Science reverses the false testimony of the material senses, and thus tears away the foundations of error.” In the following paragraph she says: “The so-called laws of matter and of medical science have never made mortals whole, harmonious, and immortal. Man is harmonious when governed by Soul.” We realized that there was no law that could dictate an irregular growth, because all law emanates

from divine Principle.

We worked along these lines, and within a few weeks we again visited the dentist. He noted a remarkable change in the position of the teeth, and said that perhaps a brace would not be necessary. I never wore a brace of any kind; and on a visit to another dentist fifteen years later, I was told that I had an exceptionally fine set of front teeth. When told of the situation that had existed, the dentist could not believe that such a change had been possible without the use of braces.

My gratitude for the Christian Science Sunday School is indeed great. I early learned there the truths of God as Father-Mother, caring for His creation.  One healing stands out remarkably clear to me and has been a constant source of inspiration.  One summer, when I was about nine years old, we were away on a family holiday.  My father and I were out for a bicycle ride in the country, and coming to a steep hill, we started to descend, our speed getting faster and faster.  Suddenly I lost control of my bicycle and crashed into my father who was riding alongside.

My father stopped and picked me up and took me in his arms to the grass verge at the side of the road.  A small group of people had collected, and my father persuaded them not to call an ambulance, as they wished to do, since I had sustained very severe cuts and abrasions on my face and hands.  He also gently requested them to leave us alone.  I heard him then repeating “the scientific statement of being” from the Christian Science textbook.  The statement contains this truth (p. 468): “all is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All in all.”

I was then carried off to the hotel where we were staying, and I was laid on my bed there.  My mother bathed my wounds, and then together we sang a few of Mrs. Eddy’s hymns.  Mother next read to me from Science and Health, and I can remember now the peace that came to me during that reading; very soon I was fast asleep.  The next day I was up and eating normally; within two days I was back at school on time after the holiday, without a scar or a blemish on my face.  God’s healing Word is instantaneous and is ever available to all ready to accept it.

Throughout my college career, God was indeed “a very present help in trouble” (Ps. 46:1), and after college exceptional and unusual opportunities to serve have come my way through the understanding that God guides, directs, and protects man.

Recently, when my mother passed on, all sense of grief and separation was healed within a very short period of time when I realized that motherhood never depends upon a person. Mother love is part of man’s true being and flows to him directly from God and is never ending.

My gratitude to God is boundless. My appreciation of and love for our dear Master, Christ Jesus, and our beloved Leader grow deeper every day. And for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church and for the priceless privilege of class instruction, my heart is overflowing with joyous gratitude.

I am naturally well acquainted with Jill, my daughter, who has testified above. The facts are correct, and I have pleasure in verifying her statements.

I have had wonderful guidance through our religion in bringing up my two children, and the rewards have been great. I have also been greatly helped over business problems, and I have experienced physical healings and great protection through the study of Christian Science.
